Intelligent Lighting System for Modern Open-Plan Office
for Chesterfield Business Park in Commercial Office

The Project
A Chesterfield business park was refurbishing a recently vacated office suite and wanted to install a modern intelligent lighting system as part of the fit-out. The brief was to improve energy efficiency, reduce running costs and give occupants flexible control over their working environment.
We designed a DALI-controlled system incorporating LED luminaires, occupancy sensors and daylight-linked dimming throughout the open-plan area, meeting rooms and breakout spaces.
What We Did
- Lighting design to CIBSE LG7 (office) standards
- Supply and installation of LED linear and recessed luminaires throughout
- DALI addressable control system with individual zone programming
- PIR occupancy sensors in all areas — lights off after 15-minute vacancy
- Daylight harvesting in perimeter zones to reduce energy use near windows
- Scene-setting capability for meeting rooms (presentation, video call, general)
- System commissioning and handover with full operating guide
The Result
The installed system achieves an estimated 45% reduction in lighting energy costs compared to the previous fluorescent installation. The office occupants have flexible, intuitive control via wall-mounted and app-based controls. The client has since engaged Hargan for a second phase covering additional office suites on the same floor.
